About Me

- Welcome to my Blog! I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. I am married to a wonderful man who supports me in all that I do - and all that I am passionate about. We have four children - the oldest two boys are in college and we are homeschooling our younger two, a boy age 9 and a girl age 5. I have always been interested in alternatives to traditional education and am so thrilled to be homeschooling my children. When not homeschooling, I love to knit and read as well as listen to country music (XM 59!). I am also a social worker and work part time for an excellent home care agency in pediatrics, maternal -child health and both adult and pediatric hospice. It is extremely rewarding work. I look forward to sharing our journey with you.

Faith
Faith .....
Lately I have been thinking a lot about faith. I have faith in my ability to educate my children in a unique way, one that is consistent with my family's values, our energy, our schedule, our personalities, our lifestyle. We are blessed to have the ability to homeschool our children. While challenging, it provides us with the backdrop to a very close knit family, one in which we really know each other, and enjoy each other. We love spending time together and rarely "look" for time when we just don't want to be around each other. We appreciate our kids in a way that if we were not with them on such a consistent basis, we would not know them in the same way.
Faith is also something that we practice, daily. As life presents struggles of many kinds for us, it reminds us to have faith in our future, in our present, and have the confidence to move in a purposeful way through our lives. It does take practice. Doubt does enter our minds, confusion and wondering the why's of what we go through. Knowing that there is a greater purpose, that there are no coincidences, and that everything happens just as it is supposed to - for a reason - enriches our understanding of our lives.
I have faith in my children's ability to make decisions for themselves that feel right to them. I know that they will find their way in this world, and make the right choices for them. I honor their choices and try to never make them feel that they cannot have the freedom to be who they are, no matter how old they are. They are just as integral to us as we are to them, and we all learn from each other.
I trust when my kids are tired, when they are energetic, when they want to learn, when they want to play, when they want to be alone, and when they need me by their side. I respect their feelings, just as they respect mine (most of the time!).
I raise my children with purpose - the purpose of doing good, being good, being just, being real, being kind, being present, being authentic. Presence is essential in our everyday lives, for without being present, one cannot enjoy all the moments.
Take the time, be patient, trust your children, trust yourself. There is no time like the present. You cannot get today back. Have faith that each day is a gift and happens just as it is supposed to. We are each here for a bigger reason than we know. Accept yourself for who you are, and treasure your children for who they are and whom they are becoming.

It's a New Year ... Time to Start a Blog!
Welcome to my new blog! I have been thinking for some time about starting a blog. I love to write, and have kept journals since the age of 8. I love the aspect of documenting all that we do, all that we learn, and all that we want to know. Homeschooling two children has many exciting moments - many challenging times - and many happy smiles from us all. But I also know that homeschooling cannot occur in a vacuum and needs the support of a community - or at least I do! I love learning from others and I love to teach as well. It always feels so good to know that I am not alone out here in our little world!
While not homeschooling, I LOVE to knit! I always have several projects going on at once - and I love to see what others are knitting. I look forward to sharing here with you about great projects - for us as adults and for our kids. I love crafting with my kids, and they love it too.
Also, I make time everyday to read. I read on my Kindle on my phone. I never thought I could actually give up paper books, but now I have the ability to read faster and go through books so much more. I will be listing whatever is new on my Kindle so we can share reading ideas as well.
And ... then there's the country music ... well - I just love it! I am always singing to the newest country music songs and have either Pandora, I-Tunes or XM59 The Highway playing!
